COVID-19 INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS UNDERGOING NHS ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
INVISALIGN CLEAR BRACES
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an increasingly popular method of straightening teeth for patients suffer from less severe cases of crooked or misaligned teeth. Instead of traditional braces that involve fixing appliances to your teeth Invisalign comes in the form of 2 clear plastic 'aligners'. When worn they are almost invisible making them far more aesthetic than traditional braces.
Why people use Invisalign
The thought of traditional braces is off putting for many people. In comparison, Invisalign invisible braces are an appealing option because:
-
Almost invisible: You can straighten your teeth discretely without other people knowing
-
Removable: Allows you to eat and drink what you want during treatment and makes brushing and flossing easy.
-
Comfortable: Far less chance of abrasions during treatment versus traditional braces
-
No metal: Invisalign invisible braces are made of smooth, BPA free plastic that is very comfortable and less likely to cause irritation.
-
Less adjustments: Compared to traditional braces you'll require less adjustments and visits to the dentist.
-
See results: With a virtual treatment plan your dentist can show you how straight your teeth will be at the end of your treatment.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign invisible braces work as follows:
-
Step 1: Initial consultation - You will visit one of our clinics in Newcastle or North Shields for a consultation where we will discuss your requirements, review the condition of your teeth and determine if Invisalign invisible braces will be suitable for you.
-
Step 2: Create your customised treatment plan - We will take X-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth which we'll use to create a digital 3D image of your mouth. We'll use this to design your treatment plan and provide you information such as length of treatment, expected results
-
Step 3: Get your aligners - Based on your treatment plan, a set of invisible braces (custom made aligners) are made for you. We'll provide guidance on how to use them properly so you leave the clinic confident of what to do.
-
Step 4: Wear a new aligner every two weeks - Every couple of weeks you will switch the aligners that you're using for a new pair. Every 6 weeks or so you'll visit the clinic so that we can monitor your progress to check that you're progressing as expected versus your treatment plan. You'll also be provided an estimate as to how much longer treatment is expected to last.
-
Step 5: Smile - Your treatment is finished and you'll be more confident than ever about your smile. At this stage the dentist will advise how to maintain your new smile. Some patients are recommended to use a retainer to ensure their teeth remain in position post treatment.
How long does treatment last?
It varies patient to patient but on average treatment for adults takes around a year whilst treatment lengths for teens are comparable to traditional braces. For best results the dentist will recommend that you wear your invisible braces for 20-22 hours per day throughout your treatment. You don't need to do this but the less you wear your aligners the longer your treatment period will be.
How much does Invisalign cost?
Treatment costs are based on the length of treatment, clinic visits required, whether or not you'll require a retainer and the number of aligners required. Because of these variations we're unable to provide an accurate quote online but the costs start from £2,500
