CONVENTIONAL BRACES
Proven and cost effective
Conventional braces have been in use for decades and its for a good reason. They can be used to address almost any condition when it comes to correcting the position of your teeth. In addition they are cost effective and consistently achieve brilliant results.
How do conventional braces work?
Conventional braces are fixed to the front of your teeth using a strong adhesive. The arch wire that runs across the front of the brace applies a gentle but constant pressure to each tooth to ensure that it is accurately moved into the correct position.
If there is one thing that conventional braces can be relied upon for it is accuracy as they allow us to be very precise about where to apply pressure to ensure we get the best result.
How long do braces need to be worn?
Typically between 18 and 24 months depending on the severity of your condition.
Can they be removed?
Conventional braces can not be removed during treatment because they are fixed to your teeth therefore you need to be sure that you're comfortable with that prospect before you begin treatment or consider alternatives such as Invisalign.
I'm worried about being seen with braces
Wearing braces can worry many patients when it comes to their appearance and that is understandable. However we often find that many patients very quickly overcome the paranoia of wearing their braces, particularly once they start seeing the results of treatment.
In additon, we can often improve the appearance of conventional braces with the addition of colour or by using ceramic brackets (see right) as opposed to metal.
If you're absolutely sure that you would hate wearing conventional braces then you may want to consider alternatives to braces such as:
